Els de Graauw is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Baruch College, CUNY, and regularly teaches an immigration course at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY.  Her research lies at the intersection of immigration studies, (sub)urban politics, civic organizations, and public policy and focuses on municipal responses to immigration.  Els recently completed a book manuscript on the role of immigrant-serving nonprofit organizations in developing, enacting, and implementing a variety of immigrant rights ordinances in San Francisco, CA.  She currently has under way a comparative study of city offices of immigrant affairs across the United States as well as a project on local initiatives to improve the civic integration of undocumented immigrants.  Els received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, held as post-doc position at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and was an Immigration Research Associate at Cornell University.  She is an affiliate of the CUNY Center for Urban Research and the MacArthur Foundation Network on Building Resilient Regions.  She is also one of the co-founders of the Section on Migration and Citizenship of the American Political Science Association and serves as the Section’s co-president in 2012-14.  Her webpage at Baruch College provides additional information.
