Guillermo Yrizar Barbosa is a PhD student in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center and a research assistant at the School of Public Affairs in Baruch College. Guillermo received his B.A. in political science from Tec de Monterrey and a master’s degree from El Colegio de la Frontera. He has been a guest scholar at the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and a visiting graduate student at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego. He is currently a Fulbright, CONACYT and FIDERH scholar. From 2008 to 2010 he worked for the Seminar on International Migration (SEPMIG) and for the Migration Surveys in the North and South Mexican Borders (EMIFs). Prior to starting his doctoral studies, he was advisor to the Undersecretary of Population, Migration and Religious Affairs at Secretaría de Gobernación (Mexican Ministry of Interior).  His most recent publication is titled “Emigration Policies in Border-Countries: Opening up the Debate towards Morocco from the Mexican Experience,” published in El Bravo Mediterráneo: Las regiones fronterizas en la época de la globalización (Edicions Bellaterra).
