Maritsa V. Poros is Associate Professor of Sociology at The City College of New York, CUNY. She specializes in international migration and has research interests in social networks, inequalities, race and ethnicity, and urban studies. Her work has addressed the role of migrant networks in shaping labor market processes, the formation and influence of ethnic communities, and migrant mobilization in southern Europe. In 2011, Stanford University Press published her book, Modern Migrations: Gujarati Indian Networks in New York and London, which proposes a relational account of migration and migrant networks. In 2013, SAGE will publish her work onKey Concepts in Migration (with David Bartram).  She is also working on a research project titled “Ethnic Communities in Chicago: A Study of Their Formation and Influence,” which is funded by the National Science Foundation. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2001 and joined the Department of Sociology at City College in 2006 and the Graduate Center in 2010.
