Nicole P. Marwell is Associate Professor of Public Affairs and Sociology at Baruch College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Marwell is an expert on urban, organizational, and political sociology and is available to comment on: urban development; nonprofit organizations, especially the New York City nonprofit sector; local and state politics; Latino communitiesPrior to beginning her academic career, Dr. Marwell worked in the field of nonprofits and philanthropy.  In addition, she has published articles in the

Prior to beginning her academic career, Dr. Marwell worked in the field of nonprofits and philanthropy.  In addition, she has published articles in the American Sociological ReviewCity and Community, Qualitative Sociology, and the Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly.

Her 2007 book, Bargaining for Brooklyn: Community Organizations in the Entrepreneurial City(University of Chicago Press) examines the roles of Latino community-based organizations in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Bushwick.  Dr. Marwell’s current research on government contracting to nonprofit organizations is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Professor Marwell received her BA in religious studies from Columbia University, and her MA and PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago.
